“Sharing is Caring” said Bram Cohen,
the
creator of BitTorrent, one of the most successful peer-to-peer programs ever.
File sharing is defined as making files available for other individuals to
download. The most common method is the use of peer-to-peer software, such as
BitTorrent. P2P networks can be used for
sharing content such as audio, video, data or anything in digital format. “Analysts
at CacheLogic, an Internet-traffic analysis firm in Cambridge, England, report
that BitTorrent traffic accounts for more than one-third of all data sent
across the Internet”( www.wired.com ).
Cohen realized that dividing a file and have several users uploading would
speed up the process. Therefore, the more popular the file the faster the
downloading. You must be willing to share in order to receive files quicker. Strange how subconsciously a network is being built, where we depend on the amount of users for faster speed.
